Daniel Craig to ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’

We’ve all heard by now that the beloved James Bond franchise is dead in the water. The next project, known only as “Bond 23″ may never happen thanks MGM’s financial issues. Thankfully a dry season for Bond does not mean a freeze on Daniel Craig appearances altogether. The blue-eyed actor has just signed on for the English language version of the film The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. It is based upon the award-winning crime novel by the late Swedish author and journalist Stieg Larsson.

There is already a Swedish film called Män som hatar kvinnor, which translates roughly to “Men Who Hate Women” in English (though it is called The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo on my Netflix). Odd title aside, it is the same story, just with subtitles. The crime thriller uses the world as its stage. Dragon Tattoo is just the first chapter in the “Millennium Trilogy,” meaning there may be three films for Craig. Screen Rant confirmed Craig will portray Mikael Blomkvist, a disgraced journalist who gets caught up in the search for a woman missing for forty years, while being aided by an eccentric young female hacker. David Fincher will direct.

Craig has already been a hive of activity. The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn (Who makes up these titles??) is a wrap for the actor. The 3D film directed by Steven Spielberg and produced by Peter Jackson stars Craig, Jamie Bell, Andy Serkis, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost. Paramount will release Tintin December 23, 2011, according to THR, just two days after Sony has Dragon Tattoo scheduled to open. Craig is also filming Cowboys and Aliens.
