According to Variety, Devil is a “supernatural thriller…based on an original story by Shyamalan.” M. Night will produce with Quarantine filmmakers and brothers John Erick Dowdle and Drew Dowdle directing the PG 13 horror project, written by Brian Nelson. Nelson co-wrote Hard Candy and 30 Days of Night, as well as served as screenwriter for Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman and Gene Roddenberry’s Earth: Final Conflict. We’ve got the trailer for you, thanks to Apple. All you need to do is sit back and hit play.
Chris Messina (Julie and Julia) stars in the new tale of suspense, which is set within an office building. It was slashfilm.com that first discovered the film’s logline, and SPOILER ALERT, here it is: “A group of people are trapped in an elevator, and one of them is the devil.” Filmmakers have got me sold! As a fan of X-Files, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, and the Twilight Zone, I cannot wait to see how this new story unfolds. Devil frightens theater-goers this September. Rumor has it this is just the first chapter in a three part series called The Night Chronicles. According to screerant.com, “The essential development process of The Night Chronicles goes something like this: Shyamalan comes up with an idea and then passes it off to a young emerging filmmaker.” And I don’t have a problem with that! Shyamalan wrote and directed current fantasy adventure The Last Airbender. Critics have been slamming the family friendly film, but I rather enjoyed it. Airbender had a decent opening weekend, too.
