Well, if you clicked on this link hoping against expectations that maybe Rihanna’s film debut would be in an adaptation of some obscure literary masterpiece named Battleship and not the classic naval combat game from Hasbro, I’m sorry to disappoint you. USA Today reports that the red hot diva’s first performance will, in fact, be in a movie based on a board game where characters and storyline are pretty much non-existent.
Hollywood, particularly actor/director Peter Berg, is looking to cash in, and my gut tells me this will not be a good idea. I can already hear the bad puns film critics will be making about how Peter Berg sunk their battleship. Release date is tentatively scheduled for May 2012.
In other talks, word is that if Battleship somehow defies odds and makes bank, Berg has expressed interest in next turning his sights on the classics Operation, Wack-a-Mole, and Hungry Hungry Hippo . And yes, I am making that up.
