When an American contractor working in Iraq finds himself buried underground in a wood casket with only his cell phone, a lighter and his wits, the result is a movie boasting so many twists that Alfred Hitchcock himself would beam with pride. They’ve got me sold. The suspense thriller is called Buried. The leading man, Ryan Reynolds, is currently gracing the cover of Entertainment Weekly as the new Green Lantern.
Reynolds’s character here, Paul, frightened, and well, buried, gets calls from the people who masterminded his predicament, suggesting he create his own ransom video with his cell or else someone close to him will be shot. Later in the trailer we hear how many hits the footage gets on YouTube. Paul calls the authorities only to get the run around. Ivana Mino, Jose Maria Yazpik and Joe Guarneri comprise the cast, directed by Rodrigo Cortes. The independent film made its debut at the 26th Sundance Film Festival on January 21st and may be is released in U.S. theaters sometime this year.
