Amy Adams and Viggo Mortensen On the Road

Viggo Mortensen can’t seem to get off the road. With last year’s Cormac McCarthy adaptation The Road and now a film version of Jack Kerouac’s On the Road, he also seems to be latching on to great literary works for the furtherance of his film career. Nothing new there, and a smart idea if you ask me, seeing as how Hollywood so often has trouble with original ideas.

Deadline reports that in the Francis Ford Coppola-produced adaptation, Mortensen will star alongside Amy Adams, a natural candidate for the “America’s Sweetheart” title. Mortensen plays Old Bull Lee, while Adams steps into the role of his junkie wife Jane. The team of Walter Salles and Jose Rivera, whom you may remember from The Motorcycle Diaries seems like an inspired choice for the respective director and writer reigns. Production began today, so it won’t be long now, Kerouac fans.
