Hey Gamers, B.T. Robertson here with VG Spotlight, a video blog dedicated to all things gaming. I’ll be covering the video gaming stories I find interesting each day, Tuesday through Friday, and offering opinions when necessary.
Today, on VG Spotlight:
- Gran Turismo 5 adds Course Maker and karts – Course Maker isn’t a full blown CG creator tool because, as series creator Kazunori Yamauchi noted, it would eliminate many gamers from using it. Instead, the tool lets you customize tracks based on a set of parameters. The kart feature was something to be included in a later game in the series, but since it was “leaked” early, the team decided to include it in GT5. Will we see more delays with this massive title in light of these new additions? Let’s hope not.
- Microsoft is releasing another Age of Empires title, namely Age of Empires Online. Revealed today by Microsoft, the game takes Age of Empires’ real-time gameplay and adds some social, online twists like persistent gameplay, new multiplayer features, leveling up and even quests. The game also has a new, cartoony art style. The game is free-to-play and developed by Robot Entertainment.

- Shreveport, LA – Marcus Donté Reed believed that three brothers had stolen his Xbox 360. So he’s accused of going to their house with an “assault weapon” and shooting them all dead. Donté Reed, aged 33, drove to the Caddo, Louisiana home of the three Adams brothers on Monday night and hid in the woods near their home. He is accused of gunning them down in their car when they arrived home. It’s claimed that he believed that the brothers – 20 year-old Jerimiah, 18 year-old Jarquis and 13 year-old Jean – had broken into the home of his girlfriend earlier that day and stolen his Xbox 360, though he did not report the crime and there is no evidence (as of yet) to suggest the three were involved. Donté Reed has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder.
- Britain’s Advertising Standards Authority reprimanded an Xbox 360 version Final Fantasy XIII commercial for using PS3 footage of the title. All it took was one viewer to complain that the commercial used PS3 footage, and the ASA sat down with both versions of the game running on identical screens and set ups. The ASA concluded that there is a discernable difference in picture and color quality of the two – the PS3 version was higher in quality. In Square-Enix’s defense, the publisher noted that the footage was taken from the pre-rendered sequences, not live gameplay. Either way, the ad can never be aired again on British television.
