Empire has brought us a first look at Nintendo Wii’s upcoming game Epic Mickey, set for a November 19 release. Over the years, I must admit that I’ve fallen out of touch with the mouse, much preferring Mighty Mouse or Tom & Jerry to his antics, but this game from Disney Interactive and Warren Spector (Deus Ex) returns him to the mischievous little scamp that he was and veers him away from the black-white-and-red sissy he’s turned in to.
The dark nature of this four and a half minute trailer also indicates that Disney is willing to trust that kids are old enough to handle a few frights here and there. And it’s a good thing, too. Today’s kids are way too protected from reality. Not only does Epic Mickey mark the rebirth of a legend, but it takes a small step in the dewussification of tomorrow’s generation today. Now if we could just do something about that Justin Bieber gal.
