Robert Rodriguez talks Deadpool script

In an exciting LA Times feature, film wonder kid Robert Rodriguez seemed quite enthusiastic about the Deadpool project. β€œIt’s a great script and a great property,” he said of the Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Zombieland) screenplay that would bring the “merc with the mouth” from Marvel Comics to life in a live action adventure. Rodriguez has been having meetings with 20th Century Fox about the film, which would suggest that the project still has a pulse and a prayer.

According to the Times, Reynolds, who portrayed Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine and would be a first choice for the lead role in the Deadpool film, is “becoming a major player in comic-book cinema considering his roles in next year’s Green Lantern film, the planned R.I.P.D. adaptation as well as his work in the Blade franchise.” You can see dazzling character posters right now for Green Lantern. And don’t forget to see Reynold’s thrilling Buried teaser trailer.

Rodriguez is currently hard at work on his upcoming action flick, Machete. See the Michelle Rodriguez film poster, see the trailer (which you saw if you watched The Expendables recently), and read up on Lindsay Lohan’s role.

Rodriguez had just finished the final sound mix for Machete when he spoke to the Times and said he had to decide between three projects to be his next. One option is Deadpool. One option is Sin City 2. The sometime director, sometime producer refused to name the third, but the Times speculated it could be Neveracker “a far-future thriller”.
