James Cameron’s True Lies to ABC

It has always been my favorite James Cameron film since it came out in 1994, and now, according to THR, it is getting the TV treatment for ABC. Leading the way is showrunner Rene Echevarria, whose previous credits include Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and The 4400. Pretty good credentials, but for me, the ultimate success of this series will be in whom ABC, Lightstorm Entertainment, and 20th Century Fox TV can get to fill the roles sure to be vacated by Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tom Arnold, and Jamie Lee Curtis.
I’ve also always believed that Bill Paxton did some of his finest work in the Cameron action-thriller as a role-playing used car salesman with a self-proclaimed little dick. (“It’s pathetic!”) Hard to believe the same guy responsible for that big blue turd last year was also the man behind this superior piece of entertainment. No idea whether the proposed TV show will follow suit, but we’ll find out when the pilot lands sometime in 2011.
