Kazuo Ishiguro’s Never Let me Go – new clip!

Every time I think of Charlotte Rampling, my mind goes back to the early 70′s film Vanishing Point, where she was a white hot representation of Death Incarnate for my reckless driving buddy Kowalski and his supercharged Dodge Challenger. Rampling was a really hot momma back then. Now, not so much, but I’m still excited to see her turn up in Mark Romanek’s adaptation of the Kazuo Ishiguro novel Never Let Me Go.
On the surface, this movie seems like a frumpy English drama about life, love, and loss–in other words, all the boring shit we go to the movies to get away from. But if that’s what you’re getting, you’ve obviously never read the source material. The reality is that Never Let Me Go is a chilling sci-fi fantasy piece that de-emphasizes the genre elements for a heartfelt and heartbreaking story about what it means to be human. Knowing a bit more about the novel also makes this 48-second clip from HitFlix all the more chilling.
Never Let Me Go is playing now at the Toronto Film Festival. It will hit the states on January 14, 2011.
