Wow. The pic below, brought to you by Cruel and Unusual Films, doesn’t look even remotely realistic. But what do you expect from the guy that brought you 300 and Watchmen? With Sucker Punch, it looks like the young director Zack Snyder will continue his CGI exploits, and why shouldn’t he? The Xbox 360 generation really took to 300. Not so much with Watchmen, but there have been bigger box office disappointments. After all, the film turned a profit when factoring in its international take.
I’d say this story which has been cleverly billed as “Alice in Wonderland with machine guns,” is in prime pouncing position to further Snyder’s career. I just wish he’d lose the CGI gimmick. His movies are nearly indistinguishable from video games, and while I love the hell out of me some video games, I like my movies a little more convincing. But to each his own, I guess. Sucker Punch does have some hot chicks in it, so I’ll probably go see it in spite of the difference in opinion. I’m sure Snyder will be waiting with baited breath. The film opens on March 25, 2011.
