Christopher Plummer in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

The Girl With The Dragon TattooOscar-nominated actor Christopher Plummer is set to play the patriarch of a family that holds mysterious, dark secrets in Columbia’s adaptation of the award-winning novel The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film’s director David Fincher (Fight Club and Se7en) is currently shooting in Sweden. The film stars Daniel Craig (Quantum of Solace) as a disgraced journalist who teams up with a tattooed hacker (Rooney Mara, The Winning Season) to solve a 40-year-old murder at the behest of Plummer, who is a wealthy industrialist. The case unearths some dirty family secrets, including corruption. The film is produced by Scott Rudin.

Plummer, who is a veteran of stage and screen, voiced the villain in Disney/Pixar’s Up and earned his sole Oscar nomination for playing Leo Tolstoy opposite Helen Mirren (The Queen) in the drama Last Station. He is probably best known for his role of Captain von Trapp in the film classic The Sound of Music and received much critical acclaim for playing 60 Minutes correspondent Mike Wallace in the film The Insider, which starred Al Pacino and Russell Crowe.

Plummer also has a part in Screen Gem’s upcoming vampire movie Priest with Paul Bettany (Iron Man) and Stephen Moyer (True Blood). His career has spanned five decades, and it doesn’t look to be slowing down anytime soon.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo has a very good chance of being a hit, considering the novel that it’s based on has sold millions of copies worldwide.
