Dreamworks “Alma” Overseen by Guillermo del Toro

Rodrigo Blaas and Guillermo del Toro will team up to turn Blaas’ award-winning short Alma into a feature film. Alma tells the story of a young girl, who ventures in to a toy shop and becomes enamored with the dolls only to find there is one that looks just like her. In a style that would make del Toro proud (which is, we suppose, why he’s working on the film), the shop is more sinister than it first appears and has designs on turning the girl into a permanent part of its “collection.”
Del Toro recently signed on as a consultant to DreamWorks Animation. He is also co-directing Trollhunters with Blaas, reports THR. As for Alma, she first started as a side project for Blaas, who was busy working on Finding Nemo, Up, and Ice Age. As he finished the project, people started to take notice. It has since won best animation at the L.A. Shorts Fest and best Andalusian short at Animacor-International Animation Film Festival in Spain.
