James Cameron on Angelina Jolie and Cleopatra

James Cameron is weighing his next potential projects, and for those of you fanboys who think that Avatar was not avatarded and would like to see a sequel–well, it’s not out of the question, but it may not be next. Cameron seems to have his sights set on Cleopatra with Angelina Jolie, though he’s the first to tell you, it’s far from a done deal, too. In an eye-opening interview with the NY Times, Cameron shed light on this and other potential projects including a 3D rerelease of Titanic.

“There’s a Cleopatra project in work, meaning that it’s been in development at Sony. And it’s a subject that’s always fascinated me. So yeah, I’ve been talking to them about it but no decisions have been made,” Cameron told the newspaper. “But it sounds hot, doesn’t it? I mean, Angelina Jolie and Cleopatra? To me, that’s like a slam dunk. Whether I wind up doing it or not, I think it’s going to be a great project.” If it were Lucas doing it, we’d probably just airbrush Jolie into the 1960s Elizabeth Taylor classic in place of the other famous homewrecker.
