Natalie Portman out, Bullock in Gravity?

Gravity, the ambitious Alfonso Cuaron project that previously boasted a huge casting addition with Natalie Portman now suffers the setback of losing the star due to scheduling conflicts, reports Deadline. The film, shot on an $80 million budget and planned as a 3D extravaganza, purports to be Castaway in space. Instead of a man in the lead role, however, it will be a woman. Only catch is, Warner Bros. and Cuaron aren’t sure on which woman.

Variety follows up on the movements that if the production team had their preference, they would fit the part to Sandra Bullock, who won an Academy Award for The Blind Side, and is currently the frontrunner. In much the same fashion as when the role was offered to Portman, it’s Bullock’s if she wants it. No doubt a high salary and the honor of working with Robert Downey, Jr., will be welcome opportunities, but if you’re Bullock, you don’t have to chase these opportunities. They come find you.
