Olivia Wilde Is Timberlake’s Mom in Niccol’s SF
Andrew Niccol’s new thriller will cast Alpha Dog stars Justin Timberlake, Amanda Seyfried and Olivia Wilde together once more, according to TheWrap.com. The untitled New Regency/20th Century Fox production, formerly known as I’m.mortal, is already underway and promises to deliver a bold new theme to the world of sci-fi.
Wilde, despite being three years Timberlake’s junior, is set to play his mother in the fast-paced film, which sees a world where growing older is no longer an option unless you can buy the years. Aging stops at 25 and money means nothing; instead, time is the hallmark of wealth. Darwin’s theory of evolution is thwarted as even the fittest find themselves battling for survival – in this case, Timberlake and Seyfried.
Timberlake plays Will, an insurgent from the ghetto who finds himself falsely accused of murdering a man for his wealth. He becomes a fugitive, taking with him a token hostage (Seyfried) in his attempts to outrun the enforcers of the law (Cillian Murphy and Collins Pennie).
Wilde, who currently stars in House, is joined in this peculiar inversion of age by Mad Men’s Vincent Kartheiser, who stars as Seyfried’s father. The increasingly prolific actress will be adding yet another string to her bow, having already established herself as something of a Hollywood starlet with her roles in Tron Legacy – due for release December 17th – and Haggis’ The Next Three Days which comes to our screens November 19th.
Some might agree that the movie offers a perfect opportunity to resurrect Pink Floyd’s epic Time (from the album Dark Side of The Moon) as part of the soundtrack – what better words to echo over this movie than ‘Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time…’ – for there lies the question: will they?
