Rhys Ifans – next Spider-Man Movie Villain

Deadline have released further news on the upcoming production of Spiderman – and it seems that Rhys Ifans has been chosen for one of the villainous roles. This news comes shortly after Emma Stone was announced as taking the part of Gwen Stacy, Peter Parker’s first love.

As yet, it remains unclear exactly which character Ifans will play, but widespread speculation points to either the Goblin or possibly Venom. Matt Tolmach, president of Columbia Pictures, claims it was Ifans’ performance in upcoming movie Anonymous which made him a firm favourite for casting. Marc Webb bolstered the admiration for Ifans further by stating:

”Rhys’ incredible ability to embody both warmth and rage makes him the ideal choice.” However, all those involved in the production are reluctant to unveil which choice they’ve made for Ifans, allowing it to remain a mystery for now.

Rhys Ifans is well known for his role in 1999 romp Notting Hill alongside Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts; he received a BAFTA Film Award nomination for his performance and now looks set to warrant further nominations as he is due to appear not only in Anonymous, but also in Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows.

Further to this, he also received a BAFTA Television Award for his work in Terry Johnson’s Not Only But Always – so he is clearly an actor who likes to make his mark.
