SyFy Cancels Caprica

Say goodbye to Battlestar Galactica: Caprica, sci-fi fans. For those of you who loved seeing Esai Morales with new life to his career, it looks like you’ll have to go back and revisit your La Bamba DVDs. Syfy announced that the show just wasn’t getting the job done in the ratings department today, and that they could not justify a second season, EW reports.

“We appreciate all the support that fans have shown for Caprica and are very proud of the producers, cast, writers and the rest of the amazing team that has been committed to this fine series,” Mark Stern, EVP of original programming at Syfy, issued in a statement. “Unfortunately, despite its obvious quality, Caprica has not been able to build the audience necessary to justify a second season.”

Grant it, you never know until a series is actually given a chance how it will do, but this doesn’t seem to bode well for the Blood & Chrome prequel that Syfy is currently planning. As for the rest of the Caprica episodes, you’ll have to wait for the first quarter of 2011 to see how it all ends. Syfy is yanking this bad boy as of Nov. 2.

So, they canceled Caprica and SGU mean we won’t have to see any more Syfy movies like . They reasoned that the shows weren’t getting the ratings necessary to continue filming. OK, does this mean we will never be subjected to the horror of Mansqito, Mega Snake or Skarktopus? Because, I can’t see how they could even be mentioned in the same context as Caprica or SGU. Honestly, what does it take to entertain some people? Did they need more porn or something?

Well I think that SyFy can blame ratings all they want but lets be real that’s just a pointer back to the executives who make keeping track of any show other than the damn Ghost Busters show and Wrestling a pain in the arse.

Now as I look at it Wrestling is the price, and at Friday night an expensive one at that, we pay to get good science fiction that not everyone in the world wants to watch…ahem hence the Sifi now the SyFy channel……did I miss a memo that explains what, besides a lost audience, SyFy was/is trying to achieve with new shows running a couple of episodes then a finale only to come back in a couple of months for another few shows and then the REAL finale?

If SyFy can’t commit to the fan viewer of its namesake then as they have done with me so they will do to others and they too will find something else to watch as I have found other things to watch.

Shows that are dependable about when and where they will be on of those shows that there are enough episodes to intrigue the viewer build interest in the show and satisfy said viewer not constantly aggravate and confuse it’s viewer to the point that the viewer seeks the less adventurous broadcasters fare if not satisfying completely at least I know when and where and what time to watch even if not impressed completely knowing those things count for a lot.

The execs at SyFy (a really lousy name change, by the way) are cleary not even attempting to keep actual science fiction fans interested in watching their channel anymore. If all they want is profit, as is evidently the case, then so be it, but I don’t have to watch their lousy, 40-commercials-an-hour programming anymore.

The SyFy chanel officially sucks! They cancel the best shows on their station and keep nonsense!
