44th Country Music Awards – CMA – Award Winners

The 44th annual CMA’s – Country Music Awards – were handed out last night, a night featuring a co-host taking home the top honor and a birthday girl gripping a lot of hardware of her own. Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood co-hosted the event, the former winning Entertainer of the Year. It was Miranda Lambert, however, who had the most reason to celebrate, taking home 3 awards: Best Female Vocalist, album of the year for “Revolution,” and for video(which she shared with director Trey Fanjoy). I thought Gwenyth was a little nervous, but did a decent job. She has a nice voice. However, the award show in general was a disappointment. Most of the performances, you couldn’t even hear them sing because the music was so damn loud. And Reba doing Beyonce? Kid Rock? Kelly Clarkson? What was that all about??? This isn’t MTV! I am more of a traditional country fan, but I do like some of the modern country singers, but last night was just ridiculous. Some of the highlights were Blake,George, and the Loretta Lynn tribute. Congrats to Blake for Male Vocalist! It’s been a long time comin’!

Funny that Mel is accepting of Gwyneth, an actress singing, but can’t get his head around cross-genre singers. Well, artists who have real talent can sing anything. So Reba can sing an adaptation of a pop song. And yes, Kelly Clarkson can sing country – and she sang the heck out of that song. Schooled most of the other performers if you ask me. Jason Aldean & Kelly’s performance was the highlight of the show. I also loved Lady A, Miranda and Blake’s performances.

Remember when Kid Rock was considered a rap artist?? Yes, singers can cross those party lines and be really good. Just like Kelly Clarkson did last night and on the duet with Reba. An amazing voice is an amazing voice in any genre.
