Brad Pitt to Star in Cogan’s Trade

If you liked The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, then you’re not going to hate this bit of film news. Brad Pitt, according to THR, has signed on for director Andrew Dominik’s Cogan’s Trade, which is being described by the trade paper’s website as “a comedic crime story.” In it, Pitt will play Jackie Cogan, a professional mob enforcer investigating a heist during a high stakes game of poker under his crime family’s jurisdiction. Dominik, who previously directed Pitt in the Jesse James film is hoping to add Sam Rockwell and Casey Affleck to the cast list and pick up Mark Ruffalo and Javier Bardem along the way.

Should that happen, ladies and gents, you can pretty much bank on this film getting Oscar buzz. THR also reports that Pitt will help to produce the film along with financier Inferno, who will be unveiling the project at the American Film Market. Inferno’s next films will be the Joe Carnahan-directed (and possible Liam Neeson-starring) The Grey and the Jason Statham-Clive Owen-Robert De Niro project The Killer Elite.
