Pride and Prejudice and Zombies – Mike White to Helm?
The A.V. Club (the entertainment newspaper published by The Onion) gave Seth Grahame-Smith’s novel “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” a grade of A, saying, “(w)hat begins as a gimmick ends with renewed appreciation of the indomitable appeal of Austen’s language, characters, and situations…” By now you probably know what that gimmick is. You take a finished work as beloved as Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice” and you modify it. And it all becomes worth it when your book makes the New York Times Best Seller list. Now the project is slated to become a major motion picture.
This week the LATimes Blog speculated on who might direct the picture. The studio Lionsgate and the producer Darko Entertainment have been rumored to like Mike White for the job because although “White is a relatively inexperienced director…supporters say the choice is not without its logic. A writer (School of Rock, Orange County, Chuck & Buck) and director (The Year of the Dog) known for black comedy, White is seen as one of the few candidates who can handle the film’s many tones.” When we learn more, you will, too!
