Scarlett Johansson – Sexy Alien in Under the Skin

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Scarlett Johansson is set to star in FilmNation Entertainment’s Under the Skin, in which she’ll play a sexy alien seductress who kidnaps human hitchhikers to sate her voracious appetite. The film will be directed by Jonathan Glazer (Sexy Beast). The dark sci-fi comedy has been on Glazer’s to-do list for years, but now that an actress of Johansson’s star power is attached, the director is moving forward with the project, which should be released sometime in 2011.

Johansson should have no problem with the seductress part of the role, but I’m not so sure about the comedy part. It sounds like this role would require an actress who has great comedic flare as well as being extremely sexy. I haven’t seen all of her films, so I can’t really say if she can be funny or not. But she’s definitely going to need to bring the funny to this role to pull it off properly.

In a statement, FilmNation CEO Glen Basner said, “We’re so very excited to be working on this arrestingly original movie. How could we pass up the chance to work with a visionary director like Jonathan, especially when combined with the intriguing notion of Scarlett Johansson as a ruthless alien seductress?”

Glazer co-wrote the script for Under the Skin with Walter Campbell. In addition to Sexy Beast, Glazer directed Birth, which starred Nicole Kidman as a young widow who becomes convinced that her husband, who died ten years earlier, has been reincarnated in the form of a 10-year-old boy.

Also, look for Johansson in the upcoming film The Avengers in which she’ll reprise her role of Black Widow from Iron Man 2. The Avengers is scheduled to open in early May in 2012.
