Wolverine now Aronofsky’s “The Wolverine”

Wolverine 2 is not a sequel? You heard me. We’ve got fresh news on the upcoming comic book adaptation, hot off those proverbial presses, and it certainly isn’t what we expected. In a recent HitFix interview with the new Wolverine movie director Darren Aronofsky, the creative force behind The Black Swan offered up quite some insight.

First of all, Aronofsky announced, there are no numbers in the film title. The film will simply be called The Wolverine. It isn’t a sequel “in any conventional sense,” HitFix reported. I can’t say that I blame Aronofsky for making this decision. The first solo Wolverine live action film, X-Men Origins: Wolverine was far from perfect in my humble opinion. Will this be sort of the same situation as the non-numbered films, Hulk and The Incredible Hulk? We don’t have full details yet.

“The Wolverine” is rumored to take place in Asia, which does make sense as much of Wolverine’s comic book history is tied to Japan and the fictitious island of Madripoor. When we learn more, you will, too!
