Alias AKA Jessica Jones set for Twilight Treatment on ABC

Marvel Comics is coming to ABC and the screenwriter for the Twilight movies is the person who’s making it happen, according to the folks at Variety.

Melissa Rosenberg is no stranger to page-to-screen adaptations, having written the screenplays for all the movies in the Twilight Saga, and now she’s flexing her writing muscles for AKA Jessica Jones, a comic book adaptation that will most likely be Marvel Television’s first official project for ABC.

AKA Jessica Jones is based on a comic book series called Alias, created by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos. The name change was required because of the Jennifer Garner television series that also happens to be called Alias.

The show is about Jessica, a superhero in her early 30’s who decides to get out of the superhero business because of post-traumatic stress disorder. She decides to become a private investigator because she still wants to help people, but she soon discovers that the people she winds up helping are other superheroes.

Sources close to Rosenberg say she was drawn to the character because she has a biting sense of humor and is deeply flawed, making her unique when compared to other female leads on network television.

AKA Jessica Jones is expected to hit the airwaves in the fall of 2011, and while it’s expected to be first Marvel project to hit ABC, it won’t be last because Guillermo Del Toro is working on bringing a certain green-skinned behemoth to the small screen.
