Avengers Movie – a Kree/Skrull Space Opera?

There’s a pretty big rumor floating around that was discovered by Ain’t it Cool News when a reader of the Albuquerque Journal stumbled across an article talking about the The Avengers shooting in New Mexico.

The article covers the known territory of the film featuring Iron Man, Thor and Captain America, but also mentions a battle with the alien races known as the Skrull and the Kree… and that’s not the only Avenger rumor floating around. There’s also some gossip about Disney starlet Demi Lovato joining the superhero team.

Both groups of aliens have been prominent baddies in the Marvel Universe so it does make sense to feature them in a film, and with some of Marvel’s heavy hitters making up the superhero team, it’s obvious that the bad guys need to pack some serious power in order to add any drama to the adventure. After all, a normal everyday bank robber or terrorist group really wouldn’t offer much competition to the combined power of Iron Man and friends.

However, if the rumor turns out to be true, I hope the filmmakers don’t lose sight of the story in favor of lots of special effects, and I hope the action stays on Earth for the most part.
