Damon Herriman in Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar

Damon Herriman is the next actor to join the Clint Eastwood film J. Edgar, which is set to star one Leonardo DiCaprio as everyone’s favorite cross-dressing closeted homosexual FBI man. While the Charlize Theron rumors are still only that, Herriman is pretty much a done deal. He will be playing a real life character by the name of Bruno Hauptmann. History buffs will recall that Hauptmann was the convicted kidnapper in the Lindbergh baby abduction. The child was reportedly killed by accident following his kidnapping.

Hauptmann has long been thought a patsy, who was innocent of the crime. Nevertheless, he was executed for the crime. Eastwood’s film reportedly centers on J. Edgar Hoover’s investigation of police corruption in the case. IndieWire reports that Armie Hammer of The Social Network will co-star as Hoover’s closeted lover. What are your thoughts about this effort? More greatness from Eastwood or further proof that he’s just a miserable old man searching for depressing material? We’re of the former, but we’d love to hear some different opinions.
