Diane Kruger Replaces Eva Green as Marie Antoinette Farewell, My Queen

Eva Green is probably dreading 2011 based on how things have been going for her recently. She was originally going to appear as the first female war photojournalist in Micahel Mann’s Capa, but the role was taken over by Gemma Arterton (Clash of the Titans). Now, indieWire brings word that Diane Kruger (Inglourious Basterds, National Treasure, Parts One and Two) will take Green’s place as Marie Antoinette in the Benoit Jacquot adaptation of Chantal Thomas’ novel, Farewell, My Queen.

It’s not all bad news for Green, though. She’s currently filming Camelot for television and is expected to star as opera singer Maria Callas in the 2011 film, Callas.

Farewell, My Queen, is the story of a royal reader who recalls the events of the 1789 French Revolution 30 years later. In addition to Kruger, the film also stars Lea Sedoux as the reader and Gerard Depardieu, whose role remains unknown at this time. The director, Jacquot, is a newbie in the U.S. but he’s a familiar name on the other side of the ocean, having received nomination in the past from both the Cannes and Venice film festivals for several movies.

Filming of Farewell, My Queen is expected to start in the spring of 2011.
