Guillermo del Toro Updates Mountains of Madness
Producer/Director Guillermo del Toro has a pretty full schedule these days with work on both a movie based on Disney’s Haunted Mansion attraction and the animated Alma, but he hasn’t forgotten about At the Mountains of Madness, the adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s novella that horror fans and Lovecraft fans are anxiously awaiting.
According to the LA Times, Del Toro recently spoke with 24 Frames, saying that the script is ready and the project about mysteries and monsters on an Antarctic expedition is moving ahead. He plans to start shooting in the summer, and hopes things will be underway by June.
Co-producer James Cameron showed why it’s always good to have another set of eyes look over things when he offered some input on the project. Del Toro says, “In his subtle style he said to me, ‘I have a few notes, but I have one fatal flaw [that I see in the script].’ He pointed out one thing that was big. I’ve been thinking about this for 35 years, and he pointed out something I’d never seen.”
Two heads are better than one, and when those two are Del Toro and Cameron, you can bet At the Mountains of Madness will be worth the wait.
