Lady GaGa and Taylor Swift Top Billboard’s Artists of the Year

Lady Gaga took home the best new artist accolade in 2009, while Taylor Swift snagged the Artist of the Year honors. Now Swift has dropped to second place to make room for Lady Gaga’s reign. Of course, Billboard, the organization that named the duo with these honors, bases much of their decisions on sales, so there’s really no arguing that the awards are deserved. Talent and quality is another story, but I digress.
The Best New Artist this year goes to a pop diva that I find a little more appealing. Ke$ha is the first woman since 1946 to hold the top song of the year status with her debut single. The song, “TiK ToK,” spent nine weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 1. Perhaps Ke$ha is gearing up for a run in 2011. Only time will tell.
