Leighton Meester – Summer Girl video

You may know Leighton Meester as one of the stars of Gossip Girl on the CW (get the latest gossip news now), but get ready to see her in a whole new light. The young actress is in the cast of the upcoming film Country Strong, where she plays Chiles Stanton, a singer whose heroes are Jesus Christ and Kelly Canter (Gwenyth Paltrow), according to the film trailer. Today we’ve got your first taste of Meester as a country singer by way of her video for “Summer Girl”. Yes, that’s her singing!

Paltrow also sings and the whole world should know it thanks to her guest role on Fox’s Glee, a role she is set to reprise! According to the film’s official site, Country Strong will premier for a limited run December 22nd and will open everywhere January 7th.

Oddly enough, Tobey Maguire is one of the film’s producers. Here’s the synopsis I snagged from the website:

Soon after a rising young singer-songwriter (Hedlund) gets involved with a fallen, emotionally unstable country star (Paltrow), the pair embarks on a career resurrection tour helmed by her husband/ manager (McGraw) and featuring a beauty-queen-turned-singer (Meester). Between concerts, romantic entanglements and old demons threaten to derail them all.
