Michael McMillian Assists on True Blood Comics

An anti-vampire crusader helping out with a vampire comic book? Art does make strange bed fellows, indeed.

Michael McMillian, who plays Steve Newlin on True Blood, has teamed up with IDW Publishing and comics writer Marc Andreyko to script the next story arc of the True Blood comic book series.

The new storyline involves new vampire Jessica Hamby going feral after getting her fangs into a contaminated bottle of the synthetic blood substitute known as Tru Blood. In addition to introducing Newlin to the comic book world, Hoyt Fortenberry, Terry Bellefleur, and Arlene Fowler will also be making their comic book debut, joining main characters Sookie Stackhouse and Bill Compton.

MTV recently caught up with McMillian to talk about the project and learned that this volume, like Volume One, takes place within a period of about 24 hours. McMillian also jokingly shared that it’s good to be both a character and a scriptwriter because he made sure to put his own character in the story as soon as possible (Steve makes a cameo on page three). He also discusses the tricky situation of working with the continuity of the TV series while striving to make the comic feel like an extension of the show, rather than something completely separate.
