Battle of the V’s: Diana Vs. Anna – BSCreview’s Character Combat
Welcome to the first installment of “Character Combat,” a new monthly column that I will be writing here at BSCreview, where characters from all forms of media come together for a showdown, and there can be only one (pardon my Highlander reference). These mock battles are just for fun. Winners are chosen to the best of my fanboy ability and are fully open for debate…which I encourage you to offer in the comments below.
So Fanboys and Fangirls…let’s get ready for COMBAT!
In preparation for the new second season of the revamped V series, it seems only fitting that our very first battle should be between V‘s Space Invading Villanesses, Diana & Anna. Below are the combatants and their brief bios.
Diana, played by Jane Badler, V (1983).
She is sadistic, ruthless and cruel, and the second-in-command of the fleet of 50 Visitor ships. She holds command from the mother ship over Los Angeles. Diana is a pioneer of the conversion process, a brainwashing method used to make humans aid the Visitors. She has also inoculated the Visitors against all known Earth diseases, and has developed a foolproof truth serum.
VS.

Anna, played by Morena Baccarin, V (2009).
She is the Supreme Commander of the Visitors, and intent on maintaining the Visitors’ positive public image by any means. Anna appears to be the leader of the Visitor race as a whole; she is referred to by the Visitors as “the queen.” She maintains control of the Visitors by means of some sort of psychic projection called “bliss,” which seems to project a sense of euphoria and a universal calming effect, since it generally seems to keep the other V’s in line.
Both combatants would definitely be appealing to Earth’s male populace, and represent a strong, beautiful, and independent feminine persona, which would make them acceptable to the female populace as well. They both have a hard time taking ”NO” for an answer and are determined to conquer all that stands in their way.
Diana sticks to her V-issued uniform and gives out her commands, while Anna can be caught dressed to the nines, looking to sway the world through propaganda and kind words. They both are reptilian aliens disguised as humans; however, Anna just oozes cold-blooded with one look. Diana is no fool and with one dastardly look will shoot anyone at point blank, to prove her dominance. She is a great scientist and tactician, which she proves by eliminating her competition and rising in power. Diana reigned supreme as the best ”Science Fiction - Female Villain” on television in the early 1980′s, but is she bad enough to keep Anna from taking her crown?
Anna is one cold and creepy female. She willingly harms her own daughter to continue her manipulation of Earth’s populace. We see her “practice” human emotions, and it is downright chilling. We see her loose her calm veneer and show a mouth full of razor sharp fangs. I think she would eat any of us humans for lunch, and still look dazzling afterward. She also can breed her own army of alien drones, something Diana cannot do. Both of these Space Invading Villanesses are forces to be reckoned with, but only one can take victory today.
Anna just down right creeps me out, and I would not want to cross her or stand in the way of her ultimate victory. I get chills every time she practices appearing emotional in the mirror and then, those looks of cold hunger….(shudders). Diana, I loved to hate back in the day while watching the original V. Anna, I just hate to love, because she comes off as a crocodile about to gorge herself on anyone nearby. The worst part of her persona, is that fake smile she puts on when in human company, like a razor looking for a throat to cut.
I call Anna the winner, due to her army breeding ability, mind control powers, and, most importantly, the fact that she seems to possess no soul of any kind. I was and still remain a huge fan of the original V series, but Diana is just a militant science officer with an attitude compared to the ruthless queen of the visitors.
Think Diana was wronged?
Or think I did right in naming Anna the winner and Supreme Space-Invading Villaness? Let me know below….
See you next Character Combat!
