Californication Set for 5th Season

David Duchovny’s Hank Moody must be feeling the love now. The fourth season of Californication is just barely underway and Deadline is bringing word that Showtime’s new entertainment president, David Nevins, has recently announced the series has been renewed for a fifth season.

Is the show that good? Over a million people apparently think so since that’s how many tuned in for the Season Four premiere, delivering the dark comedy’s best premiere performance ever. As impressive as that is, it’s made even more impressive by the fact that this was the first time Dexter, another Showtime hit, wasn’t acting as a lead-in. Does that mean the medical examiner/serial killer might have actually been keeping viewers away? Production on the 12 fifth-season episodes begins in the spring in preparation of debuting early next year.

***SPOILER ALERT***

This season is already shaping up to be an interesting one with Hank being charged with statutory rape for getting intimate with Mia, who happened to be underage at the time. Enter high-powered defense attorney Abby, played by Carla Gugino.

Abby’s job of defending Hank is going to be tough enough, but I’m sure things will get more complicated as the season unfolds. Any guesses on how long it will take Hank to get his attorney in bed?
