Captain America in Action – New Movie Pic!

The Los Angeles Times has released the latest picture from Captain America: The First Avenger and it actually looks pretty good.

Captain America is one of those characters that require a brave soul to tackle because there’s only so much you can do with that costume. It’s not a look that translates real well from comic book to screen. You can’t take the same path followed by the X-Men and just go with black leather because the red, white and blue ensemble is what makes Cap the character he is.

Even with the costume obstacles, the Joe Johnston movie is looking pretty sharp. The patriotic color scheme remains but there is thankfully no latex in sight. One point that could cause problems for hardcore Marvel fans is the addition of the gun. Will a gun-toting Avenger turn off comic purists?

What do you think? Will Captain America: The First Avenger be an awesome movie or will he become a flag-covered laughingstock? The star-spangled soldier has a lot riding on his shoulders. Becoming a box-office bomb wouldn’t just affect this one movie, but might possibly drag down the highly anticipated movie, The Avengers, which starts filming in New Mexico in the spring, and the planned Iron Man 3.
