Chris Evans as Captain America – New Pic!

Wow. Wow. Wow. Did I mention, wow? This comic book fan is excited. Can you tell? If you pick up this week’s precious print edition of Entertainment Weekly, Marvel Comics lovers, you will be justly rewarded. Inside you will see your new Captain America actor, Chris Evans, suited up to the max on the set of Captain America: The First Avenger. We have a yummy preview just for you!

Of course here at BSC, we have delivered images of Evans hard at work before. You can spy a shield in this set. The bad guys are barely previewed here. And what do you know, Cap has even made the cover of EW. I may just tuck both editions of the print mag into plastic sheets and keep them with my comics.

The film we can’t wait for is due out this summer.

So why is the costume a little less spandex and a little more channeling of military mojo? “You can’t really take him seriously in his flag pajamas,” director Joe Johnston told EW in last year. The uniform you see was “designed to resemble a tricked-out airman’s jumpsuit, the ‘A’ on the helmet and star on the chest modest in size, the colors muted.” It reportedly only takes Evans about 25 minutes “to suit up”. “He likes to do it all by himself,” explained costume designer Anna Sheppard. “I think it helps him feel like a super hero.” That’s funny. Mark your calendars to see him on the big screen July 22.

Sadly, Jon Favreau is NOT directing Iron Man 3, also in the Marvel universe, but when we thought that he was, we were also able to uncover the full anticipated release schedule for the upcoming films in the integrated storyline. That is news you can use!
