Clint Eastwood and Beyonce ‘A Star Is Born’ Musical

It’s the team-up that most people probably never dreamed of. Deadline has reported that Clint Eastwood is producing and directing the 4th remake of A Star is Born for Warner Brothers, and Beyonce has the lead female role in the movie about the love affair between an alcoholic star going down and the young female artist climbing towards the top.

The last version of A Star is Born starred Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson (yes, it’s that old), and it’s way past time for this one to get the reboot treatment. I sincerely wish Hollywood would crank out some new story-lines but if they’re determined to stick with sequels and reboots then this one should be at the top of the list.

The film is being written by newcomer Will Fetters and produced by Billy Gerber, Basil Iwanyk and Jon Peters. Eastwood is currently working on J. Edgar, starring Leonardo Di Caprio, Damon Harriman, and Judi Dench.

Eastwood has proven time and time again with movies like Million Dollar Baby, Changeling, and Gran Torino that he’s no slouch behind the camera and I think Beyonce is perfect for the role… mainly because I think she’s one of the few stars that can actually sing and act, although Gwyneth Paltrow looks like she’ll be holding her own in Country Strong.

The male lead hasn’t been cast yet but names like Will Smith and Robert Downey Jr. have been floating around the project so it should be interesting to see who they find to convincingly fill that washed-up actor role. Hey! Considering that little ‘speed bump’ Downey Jr. experienced not too long ago, he might be perfect for the role. He’s basically already been there.
