Gossip Girl’s Ed Westwick joins Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar

Gossip Girl cast members are making it big in Hollywood. That certainly seems to be the trend. We saw Blake Lively in The Town and she’ll appear in Green Lantern opposite Ryan Reynolds come June. Leighton Meester sings her way into the hearts of audiences in Country Strong, in theaters right now. But the news of the hour is for Ed Westwick, the British actor who portrays Chuck Bass, and his new film role.

According to the Collider, the young actor has just joined the cast of J. Edgar. This is no small feat. Director Clint Eastwood is as critically acclaimed as they come. His projects Unforgiven, Mystic River, Million Dollar Baby, and Letters from Iwo Jima all earned Eastwood nominations for Best Director. He won those for Million Dollar Baby and Unforgiven, in fact.

The new project in which Westwick will be a part is a biopic centered around J. Edgar Hoover. The title character will be played by none other than Leonardo DiCaprio. Dame Judi Dench will play Hoover’s mother and Westwick will portray a biographer of the famed director of the FBI. This is the way the Collider described the role: “Westwick is set to play a clean cut operative who, after being assigned to write Hoover’s biography, begins to dig a little too deep into the enigmatic FBI director’s life.” It looks like he’ll need to watch his back!

Actor Damon Herriman will portray the infamous Bruno Hauptmann in the film. When we learn more, you will, too!
