Jodie Foster in Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium
It’s been a while since Jodie Foster worked in front of the camera instead of behind it (if you don’t count The Beaver) and even longer since she’s appeared in a science fiction film (1997’s Contact), but Deadline reports that she’s getting back in the groove in both areas by signing on with director Neill Blomkamp’s second film, Elysium.
Foster will be joining Matt Damon and Sharlto Copley in Blomkamp’s sophomore follow-up to District 9… which many people raved about but I personally couldn’t stand. The film hasn’t found a studio to call home yet and there are no details yet, aside from the film being science fiction. Depending on the definition being used, Elysium can refer either to a person or place being struck by lightning or a section of the Underworld in Greek mythology, so there’s a couple of ideas to play with while trying to guess what the film might be about.
In addition to Elysium, Foster will also be appearing in God of Carnage with Kate Winslet, Christoph Waltz and John C. Reilly. Her next movie, The Beaver, arrives in theaters on April 11th.
