Kyra Sedgwick enters Dibbuk Box

Attention horror fanatics. Deadline.com has announced that a new scary thriller is in the works. The film is called the Dibbuk Box. The star of The Closer, Kyra Sedgwick, has signed on to play one of the lead characters. The real life spouse of Kevin Bacon will portray a mother whose youngest child becomes totally obsessed with an antique wooden box obtained from a yard sale. When her daughter starts acting strangely, mother and ex-husband decide to have the unusual carvings on the box deciphered. What they learn is that the box is home to a spirit “bent on devouring its human host”.

The “Dibbuk” in Jewish folklore is an evil wandering spirit seeking people to possess.

Horror veterans Juliet Snowden & Stiles White wrote the script. Their previous screenplays include Knowing and Boogeyman. Ghost House Pictures’s Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert will produce the film to be directed by Ole Bornedal.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan of Watchmen and The Losers will share the screen with Sedgwick. Might he play the ex-husband? We’ll have to wait and see.

Sedgwick is wrapping up her seventh season on The Closer. In ’08 she voiced Lois Lane for animated offering Justice League: The New Frontier and she followed that in 2009 with a role in Gamer starring Gerard Butler.

LionsGate will release the film to theaters October 28th, 2011. Also from “The Gate” are Rabbit Hole, in theaters now, The Lincoln Lawyer, due out this March, and Miley Cyrus flick LOL: Laughing Out Loud.
