MARVEL’s Black Panther Movie Gets Writer

Hold on to your comics, my fellow geeks, because a Black Panther movie is “back” in development over at our friendly neighborhood Marvel Studios. It seems Mark Bailey, primarily a documentary filmmaker, has been hired to write the script for the picture that will center upon “the king of a resource-rich fictional African country who becomes a super hero.” Marvel’s Kevin Feige has taken production duties.
The Black Panther is important because he was the very first black hero in “mainstream comics”, reported THR on the subject. Yes, that puts him in history before Luke Cage, Blade, and Storm. In the ’90s a film project was broached with Wesley Snipes set to star in the lead role for Colombia Pictures. Then Artisan Entertainment got the rights. Then LionsGate bought Artisan. Finally Marvel “reacquired” the rights to make a film in 2005.
Now that the project is getting some fresh momentum, who would you cast as T’Challa, King of Wakanda?
We’ve got more Marvel news here at BSC. My heart skipped a beat when I first saw the initial X-Men: First Class team shot. We have a new image of Thor, a look at Cap in live action glory, and perhaps best of all, the first ever image of Andrew Garfield as the young Spider-Man.
Until next time, please Make Mine Marvel.
