Red Dawn Remake Cast Image

One of my all-time favorite movies from the 80’s, Red Dawn, has had a rough time while traveling down the re-make road.

MGM ran into some financial problems that delayed the June 2010 theatrical release of the film, and then the movie ran into all sorts of problems involving ‘political correctness.’ While the original Red Dawn had Russian bad guys, the new version’s baddies are Chinese. This prompted Chinese state-run newspapers to run headlines like “U.S. reshoots Cold War movie to demonize China” and “American movie plants hostile seeds against China.”

Really? It’s a movie, people. Get a grip. I don’t recall anybody nuking Russia after the original film was released so I’m fairly confident that the people in China can relax.

Anyway, Red Dawn is still sitting on a shelf somewhere but The Daily Blam says MGM is planning on getting it into the theaters after they get all their Chapter 11 restructuring taken care.

Aside from a new set of bad guys, the basic plot remains the same – A group of teenagers look to save their town from an invasion of foreign soldiers by taking refuge in the woods and going on the offensive.

Chris Hemsworth and Josh Peck step into the roles originally played by Patrick Swayze and Charlie Sheen. Of course, you know you don’t have to wait for Red Dawn to see Hemsworth on the big screen. He’ll be swinging a big hammer on May 6th.

The Red Dawn promo pic features Chris Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Adrianne Palicki, Isabel Lucas, Edwin Hodge and Alyssa Diaz.

This shouldn’t have been made. A really bad idea. It wasn’t cool of them to change Erica’s ethnicity either. Erica was a Chinese American cheerleader who could kick ass, but got replaced by a blonde Caucasian cheerleader (Isabel Lucas). Dumb move.

Let’s face it, MGM deserves to crash and burn for even agreeing to make this movie.
