Salma Hayek is Wicked – The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West

Salma Hayek is getting wicked as she teams up with ABC to produce an eight-hour miniseries adaptation of Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. TV Line tells us this is an adaptation of Gregory Maguire’s novel and not the Broadway play, which also happens to be based on the novel. Check out the review of the book by BSCreview’s own Jay Tomio.

There’s more than one Wicked floating around out there so make sure to keep them straight. Universal is working on a Wicked film that is based on the musical, which is basically a prequel to The Wizard of Oz. Hayek’s Wicked is expected to be more of a parallel story than a prequel. How they plan on making two separate shows when the storyline is taken from the same book is a mystery to me but I suppose both could be interesting.

Hayek will produce the miniseries with Jose Tamez through their Ventanarosa Productions, along with ABC Studios. While she may get in front of the camera for a supporting role, she isn’t expected to step into the shoes of either Elphaba or Galinda.

Since Hayek won’t be taking on a main role, whom would you like to see in Wicked? Anyone in particular strike you as a good witch or a wicked one?
