Santiago Cabrera Enters Abrams’ Alcatraz
There was one final spot left for a regular cast member on J.J. Abrams’ Alcatraz and, according to Deadline, that role has been snagged by Santiago Cabrera, who played future-seeing artist Isaac Mendez on Heroes. You remember Heroes, don’t you? It’s the show that started off really well and then committed suicide because it got stupid.
Alcatraz is about a tenacious cop, Rebecca (Sarah Jones), and a team of FBI agents assigned to track down a group of guards and prisoners who show up in the present day after mysteriously disappearing thirty years ago.
Cabrera plays Jimmy, Rebecca’s sweet-natured fiancé, who is also a cop. There’s no word at this time on how the new role will affect Cabrera’s part as Lancelot on BBC’s Merlin.
Members of the Alcatraz team that have already been cast include Sam Neill, Jorge Garcia, Jonny Coyne and Jason Butler Harner.
Filming on the pilot episode is expected to start later this month.

Hey, Heroes is my favorite show of all time! Yes, season two is… not great, but season three is even better than season one, in my opinion.
Anyway, good to hear that Santiago’s getting more roles, and I’m a big Abrams fan, so this should be good.
I especially hope that this means Santiago won’t stay around much longer on Merlin, not because I don’t like him but because I simply can’t stand Lancelot. The less Lancelot in the show, the happier I am, although I admit I do love the resultant Arthur/Gwen angst.
