Smallville Locks in Blue Beetle And Booster Gold

MTV has the latest news on “the record-breaking” series, Smallville from the CW network. To further accent this ambitious tenth and final season of the show, two more DC super heroes are en route. That’s right, Booster Gold and The Blue Beetle have been cast.

The blue-eyed Days of Our Lives actor, Eric Martsolf is our new Booster Gold. If you are a Marvel comics fan, you will note some similarities between the hero, who is usually portrayed in a blue and gold uniform, and Sam Guthrie, a.k.a Cannonball. In fact, Gold is a bit like a cross between Cannonball and Iron Man, because he uses technology to derive his abilities. Booster’s alter ego is Michael Jon Carter.

“Newcomer” Jaren Brandt Bartlett has been cast as Jaime Reyes, a.k.a. the Blue Beetle. Yes, DC always had a penchant for weird hero names. In the comics Beetle was an athletic genius affiliated with the Justice League and The Birds of Prey.

Heroes often pass the mantle on, allowing newbies to take their name, you know, not unlike the Dread Pirate Roberts. The incarnation of Blue Beetle Bartlett will be playing is the third hero to use the name. The second fellow in that line, Ted Kord, will also appear in the episode called “Booster,” played by Sebastian Spence.
