The Dark Knight Rises in Bucharest?
Hot on the heels of announcing that Anne Hathaway and Tom Hardy have been cast as Selina Kyle and Bane, we’re finding out through the Romania Business Insider that Chris Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises might be filmed in Bucharest, Romania this spring.
There’s no official word yet but Sorin Oprescu, the mayor of Bucharest, has said the film’s producers have been discussing technical issues with city officials and Nolan has presented a list of shooting locations, including the city’s historic center and Edgar Quinet Street. Member of the production team have also been checking out the Palace of Parliament. Back in December, Nolan visited the Turda salt mines in northwestern Romania to scout out locations for a future project, but again, the visit was ‘unofficial.’
While all the unofficial news keeps everything in the realm of mere speculation, it’s not too hard to believe it’s true. Nolan has always been the type of director who prefers shooting at actual locations instead of a put-together set on stage so this would actually fit his style.
The Dark Knight Rises is currently in pre-production and is expected to be in theaters on July 20, 2012.
