Andrew Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man – New pic!
Marc Webb’s Spider-Man reboot has a new title, according to Collider, and a new picture, courtesy of Sony and photographer Peter Tangen, that gives us our first picture of the web-crawler in full costume. You no doubt remember our first look at Garfield as Spidey showed him sans mask.
While I was really starting to look forward to the movie hitting theaters as Webb’s Spider-Man, Sony has officially announced that the film shall for now and forever be known as The Amazing Spider-Man… which really doesn’t strain the imagination too much since there’s a comic with the same name.
As far as the new Spidey suit goes, I think it has its good points and bad points. I love the styling of the gloves; the mixture of blue and red seems more appealing than just the regular red gloves that Spider-Man has worn in the past. The eyes look a little yellow and I don’t know if that’s a trick of the light or what, but I sincerely hope it is because the arachnid super-hero never had jaundice in the comics so there’s no reason for him to suffer from it in the movies. The web-shooters being visible on the wrists aren’t too bad; different but acceptable. At least they’re not the big, clunky bracelets from the old 70’s television series. The textured mesh look seems just a little (and I really mean a lot) overdone. I can understand a little texture to add to the realism but Spidey’s new suit looks like it could peel flesh if you rubbed up against it… which could actually be a neat little self-defense tactic if you’re going to dress up in tights and prowl around fighting bad guys.
You can check out the official press release from Sony below and see the new suit in action when The Amazing Spider-Man swings into theaters on July 3, 2012.
