Charlie Sheen and Two and a Half Men Shut Down For Season
After years of enabling and profiting off of Charlie Sheen’s addiction and mental health issues, CBS finally decided enough was enough and shut down production on its hit sitcom Two and a Half Men for the rest of the season. This move was prompted by Sheen’s recent statements on a radio show and to TMZ, in which he sounded like the lovechild of Randy Quaid and Mel Gibson.
Sheen attacked TAAHM executive producer Chuck Lorre in the statements, both of which included an anti-semitic slur, derided Alcoholics Anonymous, and he also threatened violence against unspecified individuals he feels are unfairly maligning him. The phrase “Vatican assassin warlocks” came into play at one point. About the only things Sheen said that weren’t full of crazy were his acknowledgment that TAAHM is a terrible show and called Scientology “the church of the Martian idiot.”
In response to the production shutdown, Sheen contacted TMZ with another statement chock full of batshittery. A sample: “I wish [Lorre] nothing but pain in his silly travels especially if they wind up in my octagon. Clearly I have defeated this earthworm with my words — imagine what I would have done with my fire breathing fists…”
Sheen clearly needs help but he’s needed help for a very long time. While CBS has finally done the right thing, it should not have reached the point of a public meltdown for them to stop funding his addictions.
