Dakota Fanning in Girls’ Night Out

2011 has been a stellar year for British royals. In the Oscar nominated film, The King’s Speech, Colin Firth portrays the current reigning Queen Elizabeth’s father as he takes the throne. We’ll see plenty of coverage on that historical picture at the Academy Awards ceremony this month. The infectious and brilliant movie definitely paints the royal family in a positive light (even beautiful for their flaws). The buzz surrounding Prince William’s real life upcoming nuptials has also put royalty in the spotlight. Now we’ve learned news regarding a new royal film project.
Dakota Fanning is now attached to Girls’ Night Out, a “romantic fairytale”, according to THR, penned by Trevor De Silva. Fanning will portray a teenage Princess Margaret, who is the sister of the current Queen, Queen Elizabeth. Incidentally, Elizabeth and Margaret were also featured in The King’s Speech as darling children.
Will this news reach the Queen? Will she be delighted? When Helen Mirren portrayed her in 2006, The Queen was not amused.
Fanning is pictured above with her Push co-star, who just so happens to be the new Captain America.
I find it curious that this is not a historical biopic in the works. Girls’ Night Out is supposed to have some fantastical elements. The plot involves the sisters when they are “allowed out from Buckingham Palace for one night to join in the celebrations. Alongside her yet-to-be-cast sister Elizabeth, the two have an adventurous night on the town.” Michael Hoffman will direct the story “set against the backdrop of V.E. Day in 1945.” V.E. Day is the day the Allies accepted the surrender of the Nazi Forces to end WWII.
Also, Hoffman seems to just finishing a Colin Firth project. Fancy that! Cameron Diaz co-stars with the Brit in Gambit. You can see Fanning in Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, part one, this November.
