DJ Caruso Closes Preacher
Way back in 2009, Sam Mendes was set to direct Preacher, based on the Vertigo comic book of the same name, but things didn’t work out and the script just sat there. Now, it’s looking like the film is getting a new life since director DJ Caruso recently took to Twitter and announced:
“My deal just closed on Preacher. Going back to the dark side and pretty fucking pumped!”
The Vertigo story is about an ex-preacher, Jesse, who gets fed up with the way the world is going, figuring that God has just walked away from His responsibilities. Deciding to take matters into his own hands, Jesse heads out with his hitman girlfriend and a vampire named Cassidy to track down God and have a few words with Him. Will Hollywood flow with the idea of an irresponsible God as the ‘villain’? I guess we’ll have to wait and see how closely the movie mirrors the comic.
Hmmm. The director of Disturbia and Eagle Eye is directing Preacher? I wonder what the chances are of Shia LaBeouf being cast as Jesse.
What are your thoughts on the choice of director? Judging from his past work, Caruso just seems like an awkward fit to me, although I Am Number Four looks pretty wicked. Check out BSC’s own Rachael Dorsey to find out what she thought about it. Caruso is also helming Beat the Reaper, which might star Leonardo DiCaprio.
