L.J. Smith’s (Vampire Diaries) Secret Circle Gets Director

Author L.J. Smith isn’t just the writer behind the series of books known as the Vampire Diaries. She’s also the creative force behind the Secret Circle Trilogy. The fantasy romance stories revolve around a teen who discovers she’s a witch “and she’s part of a secret coven [and] she’s also the key that will unlock a centuries-old battle of good versus evil.” Don’t you hate it when that happens? I mean, unless a hot guy is involved, which of course is the case here.
Now a Warner Bros. backed pilot for a Secret Circle series is in the works for the VD network, the CW. Try saying that five times fast! Here at BSC we’ve been trying to keep up as news about the project develops. The last we heard, the spin-off was on again (as opposed to off again). That was a start.
Now Deadline.com has further news. The script for the pilot, written by Andrew Miller and Kevin Williamson, will be directed by Liz Friedlander (pictured above). Liz directed the popular ’90′s Alanis Morissette music video for “You Learn.” In ’06 she also helmed the John Mayer video for “Waiting on the World to Change”. In fact, there are tons of videos to her credit, along with the film Take the Lead, and a handful of episodes of the following shows: Privileged (2 episodes), One Tree Hill (4 episodes), Melrose Place (1 episode), 90210 (4 episodes), The Vampire Diaries (3 episodes), Pretty Little Liars (1 episode) and Outlaw (1 episode).
